National Pickleball Championships: How ATPL Teams Qualify

ATPL national pickleball is not an open draw. State champions and qualifying teams from affiliate leagues compete in the same team based pickleball format they play all season.

What national pickleball means at ATPL

National pickleball, in ATPL terms, is a team championship — not a singles ladder or a pro draw. Affiliate leagues play a season of team based pickleball. State champions and other qualifying teams then meet for national titles in the same scoring they already know.

That is the point of the network: local leagues stay local, and the best teams get a national stage without learning a new format on site.

2026 national pickleball championships

The 2026 ATPL National Championships are November 5–8 at Pictona at Holly Hill, Florida. Men’s, mixed, and women’s divisions will compete over four days. Lodging blocks are available for the official room block and tournament partners.

Team qualification for 2026 is now closed, but it’s never too early to start planning for next year. Join or start an ATPL affiliate league in your area, build your teams, and compete during the local season to earn a spot in the 2027 ATPL National Championships.

Building a national tradition

ATPL’s national championship roots extend back to 2024, when several of the leagues that would become founding ATPL affiliates helped establish and participated in the inaugural NTPL National Championships. In 2025, ATPL held its first National Championships, bringing together 43 teams from Arizona, California, Florida, and Oregon for four days of team competition.

That momentum continues today as ATPL has grown to 10 states and 20 regional leagues, more than doubling its size and reach. Our affiliate leagues are bringing together teams from across the country around a common format and a shared championship experience — creating an expanding pathway for local teams to compete beyond their home leagues.

How to get on the path

Players: Find an ATPL league, join or form a team, and compete locally.

Organizers: Affiliate an existing league or start a team pickleball league with ATPL QuickStart.

The championship is the destination; the league is where the path begins.

How to Start a Pickleball League

ATPL leagues use the proven team-based pickleball format originally created by the Arizona Pickleball Players League (APPL): 10–14 players on a roster, a captain and co-captain, and matches where six players compete as three doubles pairs. Every game contributes to the team score. The format has since expanded well beyond Arizona, including Florida Team Pickleball, which grew to more than 200 teams and 2,400 players in just two years.
